Big Bill's Gang

The gang had big plans to rob that train on its way

Bound for California and that San Francisco bay

They saw the train rolling through the hills with their pay

In pursuit on horseback, they jumped on that train

Some of the gang had .38s but most had .44's

They emptied every pocket and pushed men to the floor

They packed their satchels full and headed for the door

And jumped back off that train, leaving every victim poor

Well it's Big Bill's gang, running down those trains

Forty outlaws on horseback at the reins

Dressed up as clowns, taking any old train down

And no one's knows their faces around town

No no one knows their faces

Another heist took place within the Great Plains

Big Bill and his gang done robbed another train

This one's full gold, but it was hidden in the grain

He held a man at gunpoint till the gold was retained

They stuffed their bags full then jumped on off the cars

Each man loaded down with a bag of bars

They rode on into town truckin' long beneath the stars

Sure to blow their pay on women, whiskey, and cigars

Well it's Big Bill's gang, running down those trains

Forty outlaws on horseback at the reins

Dressed up as clowns, taking any old train down

And no one's knows their faces around town

Well it's Big Bill's gang, running down those trains

Forty outlaws on horseback at the reins

Dressed up as clowns, taking any old train down

And no one's knows their faces

Love Across the Line

It was a brutal morn on the battlefield

For the snow was stained with blood

The men retreat to divided sides

Where before many more stood

The Rebels returned to their old camp

Just across the Virginia line

Where a young soldier locked his eyes upon

A Yankee girl so fare and fine

He made it back to camp that night

Tracing footprints through the snow

Though surrounded by the wounded's screams

He longed to be her beaux

He rose before the sun could rise

To search for his new love

He found her there in the morning sun

A sight the angels would speak of

He told the girl just how he felt

When his eyes first laid sight

She told him that she felt the same

But she knew it wasn't right

He grabbed her hand and promised her

He would soon be by her side

When the war was done and the lines were cut

They'd no longer have to hide

She said if you want to be with me

There's something you must know

My papa wields a Yankee sword

And he would put it through your throat

I'm a Rebel man, but good at heart

And I hope he'll understand

She told him that he'd take the life

Of any greyback on his land

Their next two days were spent alone

In a cabin near the farm

They spent their days falling in love

And nights in each others arms

He wore her dead brother's coat

To keep from wandering eyes

He said darlin' Ill be back for you

It's only with you I want a life

“Love Across the Line”

He ventured back to the Rebel camp

Where most the men had died

They asked questions of his whereabouts

And he promptly fed them lies

Spring came, and summer passed,

And soon it turned to fall

The war had passed with damage done

Lost his leg to a cannonball

But he held his word and went on his way

To hold his darlin in his arms

He struggled all throughout the way

But he made it to her farm

She heard the horse come gallop up

And met him at the door

With a little baby any her hands

He couldn't have asked for more

He said I told you I'd come back for you

Now before your eyes I stand

Not a second passed since I met you

When I didn't want your hand

If you've changed your mind after all this time

I'd surely understand

He reached in his pocket

And pulled out two wedding bands

She said there's nothing more in this whole world

That I'd like more than that

We've brought a son into this life

And he cries for his dad

So take my hand and let's start a life

Then on one knee he sat

He slid the ring on her finger

And well, that was tha

John Lewis

I went to find my little Omie down by the creek

But she'd fallen out and drift away out into the deep

Out into the deep boys, out into the deep

She'd fallen out and drift away out into the deep

I hear the voices coming sounds of miles around

My dear sweet Omie drowned, they're gonna take me down

They're gonna take me down, boys, they're gonna take me down

My dear sweet Omie drowned, they're gonna take me down

I know they're gonna hang me, boy what have I done

My only chance to get away went down with the sun

Went down with the sun boy, went down with the sun

My only chance to get away went down with the sun

They found Omie's body one hot summer day

Pulled her back to the shore and up onto bank

Up onto bank boys, up onto the bank

Pulled her back to the shore and up onto bank

My name is John Lewis, I murdered in the first degree

I took little Omie out and pushed her in the deep

Pushed her in the deep, boys, I pushed her in the deep

I took little Omie out and pushed her in the dee

Hobo Man

Model trains on a track

A little boy dressed in black

In his mind he's a free rollin' man

Well I traded dreams of ridin' rails

For a small town fairy tale

A wife, a house, and a job that I can't stand

I close my eyes and gone

A freight train's my new home

Ridin through the cold wind and pouring rain

No one to bother me

I'm movin on and riding free

A dream of a hobo's life is in my veins

I thought my dreams had come true

The day that I met you

But you wanted more of life in the fast lane

It didn't take all that long

For things to turn out so wrong

When I hear that whistle blow it calls my name

I close my eyes and gone

A freight train's my new home

Ridin through the cold wind and pouring rain

No one to bother me

Cause I'm movin on and riding free

A dream of a hobo's life is in my veins

Now I'm here all alone

Just these bills and an empty home

The old front gate is knocking in the wind again

But I'm like a colt that you can't break

And my dream I won't forsake

I was born to ride that railroad train

Dreams

Well I followed you to sleep

And you dreams turned into mine

We were walking hand in hand

With no worries and no time

When I awoke

Well I knew we were meant to be

And when the sun did rise

I looked right in your eyes

Those feelings that I had

They all grabbed me by surprise

Thought I'd seen love

But girl I was lost in you

I don't know the first thing about these feelings that I have

But I hope you feel them too

I'd climb so high, I'd get down so low

I'd steal the moon foryou if I knew

It keep you around just one more day

Maybe you want to stay

But that’s maybe it's just my dreams

Oh, oh, oh my dreams

Well our morning was cut short

A cup of coffee and out the door

A long walk down the road

Left me begging for more

I fought each step as I walked

Away from you

I can't get you out my mind

Maybe it'll erase with time

But I don't mind if it don't

And you stick around

Stick around, stick around

And down In history we'd go

I don't know the first thing about these feelings that I have

But I hope you feel them too

I'd climb so high, I'd get down so low

I'd steal the moon foryou if I knew

It keep you around just one more day

Or I don't know maybe you'll stay

Maybe it's just my dreams, Oh, oh, oh my dreams

Mountain Girl

Last winter I spent alone,

Bitter cold chilled my bones

The sunlight and the silence cleared my mind

I thought of where I’ve been

Now I’m ready to start again

A mountain girl would make my house a home

Mountain girl, who knows nature’s ways

Two of us keeping warm at night

The seasons come and go but there’s one thing that I know

I need to find a real mountain girl

 The pleasures of the town,

All that running round

I could never find my comfort there

Thing I learned along the way

Made me who I am today

I need to breathe that high mountain air

Mountain girl, who knows natures ways

Two of us keeping warm at night

The seasons come and go but there’s one thing that I know

I need to find a real mountain girl

Now there’s two coats up on hooks,

And a room full of books

The woodstove warms a table set for two

Now I know I’m only dreamin

On the windowsill I’m leanin’

Dreamin of my real mountain girl

Mountain girl, who knows natures ways

Two of us keeping warm at night

The seasons come and go but there’s one thing that I know

I need to find a real mountain girl

Long Gone

The cold wind cries as it blows strong

Singing the songs of the men in unmarked graves

From miners to outlaws long gone long gone

They're long gone today

The snow's come down for days now

And where they lay you do not know, ow

Lost in a white field and they're long gone, long gone

And they're long gone today

Well I hope one day that my grave will have a tombstone

So people come and dance where I lay

High up in the hills and away from city lights

Where I find my final resting place, long gone

Long gone, when I'm long gone

Well I know they walked this road

Up to the mines where they dug for gold

They were good men, but now they’re long gone

And all that’s left is bones

Well I can hear their lost souls sing to me

Screams and cries just trying to be free

And I wonder what they think of me

As I take each breath today

Well I hope one day that my grave will have a tombstone

So people come and dance where I lay

High up in the hills and away from city lights

It'll be in my final resting place, long gone

Long gone, when I'm long gone

Long gone

Long gone, when I'm long gone

Belle of the Ball

Darlin don't you know my mind

You know I'm struggling with the times

I spend my days and my nights

With you forever on my mind

She's the needle in the haystack

She's the bell of the ball

I hope she'll wait for me

Darlin don't you know

No matter how far I go

That you're forever on my mind

Why do I lay awake at night,

Wondering where you are tonight?

What we have is hard to find,

You're forever on my mind

She's the needle in the haystack

She's the bell of the ball

I hope she'll wait for me

Darlin don't you know

No matter how far I go

That you're forever on my mind

Well I hope you'll wait for me

If you could keep me company

Cuz your the only one I need

Darlin won't you wait for me

She's the needle in the haystack

She's the bell of the ball

I hope she'll wait for me

Darlin don't you know

No matter how far I go

That you're forever on my mind

No matter how far I go

That you're forever on my mind

One More Round

We all wanna give up sometimes, and lay our burden down

We all wanna love somebody but we're too scared to be found out

We all wanna change the world well what are you waiting for

We all want somebody to hold with there nothing left to live for

Fall away my pretty little angel away from that rabbit hole

Don't let it take your mind take you away

You're fighting fire with fire and the flames ain't dying down

I know you're fighting still

For one more round

Just one more round

We all want to be to be someone we always dreamed to be

The dreams you once thought as a child are now so hard to see

We all wanna shift the blame but the shame still weighs a ton

Gotta rebuild the bridges and have the courage to walk on

Fall away my pretty little angel away from that rabbit hole

Don't let it take your mind take you away

You're fighting fire with fire and the flames ain't dying down

I know you're fighting still

For one more round

Just one more round

We all wanna call the shots, but sometimes they can't be called

When the lines get broken and crossed you have got to face your fault

Hold the ones near to your heart, yeah them ones have stood the test

What one takes for granted is now can be cherished by the rest

Fall away my pretty little angel away from that rabbit hole

Don't let it take your mind take you away

You're fighting fire with fire and the flames ain't dying down

I know you're fighting still

For one more round

Just one more round

Ain't the Same

We used to laugh, we used to cry

We used to sing, we used to get real high on the mountaintop baby

But things ain't the same without you

I thought things would be different this time

I put down the bottle and I try to do right

But things ain't the same without you

I got scars on my knees from beggin

Doing what I can and looking to the heavens

Looking for the answer, but no one’s there

Yet I'm down on my knees again

Thought I had I handled but ya know I guess I didn't

But my blood runs thick and it's loyal to you

We used to laugh, we used to cry

We used to sing, we used to get real high on the mountaintop baby

But things ain't the same without you

I thought things would be different this time

I put down the bottle and I try to do right

But things ain't the same without you

Well I know we don't see eye to eye

But I was wondering if you could come by

Show me a good time, a time or two

But I know you're gonna stay away from me

No matter how hard I beg and plead

Oh but what I'd give to see this through

We used to laugh, we used to cry

We used to sing, we used to…….

But things ain't the same without you

We used to laugh, we used to cry

We used to sing and get real high on the mountaintop baby

But things ain't the same without you

I thought things would be different this time

I put down the bottle and I try to do right

But things ain't the same without you

Ramblin' Woman

I met a man in Kansas

By the river he did roam

Told me bout the good ole days

When he had a woman at home

But she took off with his youngins

In a cloud of dust he stood alone

He said boy you ought to know

Don'tyou try to bring no ramblin' woman home

I met a man in Georgia

Stood about six foot two

Told me all bout the woman he had

That said she loved him too

But she took of with his money

Left him only with the flu

He said boy you ought to know

Don't you try to bring no ramblin' woman home

I met a man in Carolina

With a case of them low-down blues

He told me about the woman he loved

That left him for the booze

He said he knew he had it coming

He was just waiting to hear the news

And he said boy you ought to know

Don't you try to bring no ramblin' woman home

I met a man in Virginia

His wife had left him too

Told me boy if happen to me

It could damn sure happen to you

So try to pick em wisely

Find the one that will stay true

He said boy you ought to know

Don't you try to bring no ramblin' woman home
